The Balze of Valdarno are one of Tuscany's most fascinating natural landscapes. These spectacular formations of sand, clay, gravel and pebbles were created around two million years ago, when the entire Valdarno Valley was covered by a large lake. As the lake gradually dried up, water and natural erosion shaped the land into the striking clay cliffs that make this area so unique today.
